Aphrodites pool
There are two myths about Giola of Thassos. One claims that Zeus created a lagoon for his daughter, Aphrodite – a private pool, if you will. The other claims that Zeus created an ‘eye’ to keep tabs on one of his mistresses. Either way, Giola is a place to allow your imagination to run wild: a tropical island, a pirate hideaway, a film’s location, or the watchful eye of a mythical creature. In reality, Giola is a natural lagoon in the southeast of Thassos. From the parking area, it’s about a twenty minute hike, but absolutely worth it. In addition to swimming, you can sit on the surrounding rocks and take in the view.
